He sits across the table from her,
reaching out with his hands.
She holds her face in her hands, crying.
The gulf between them has grown,
the dishes stacked sky high,
bills left unopened, unpaid.
She forgot to defrost the beef (again)
he tries to rub his foot against her leg
but she pushes him away.
After a time, he gives up,
walks to his study, slamming the door.
The sound of a computer game crashes
through the flat,
“Great, go and kill some simulated baddy instead of facing me.”
He prided himself on being number six in the world
at shoot- ’em-up
but faced with his girlfriend, he’d rather run for cover.
She was too powerful for him, even his super charged Uzi
(which could kill evil six headed demons at 60 feet,)
couldn’t bring her down.
So back to the drawing board,
he would draw up a plan to destroy her.
The next time she forgot to defrost the beef, he would strike…
